3rdthawkins: that's not the problem daviss

vkn: Howdy to all

3rdthawkins: well, I was reading on Ancestry.com, people were discussing how long it takes NY to respond to a request like BC or DC, some people get theirs 4 months later, they are very strict, and require a lot of information

jhonora: Doing well, daviss

3rdthawkins: hey vkn

daviss: I see

AYWalton: greetings, vkn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

vkn: hey hey hey ayw

daviss: I have a problem with ancestry especially when you use the AA filter I would like to only get gthe state I put in and not every person in the nation

daviss: gthe = every hi khathu!!

vkn: howdy khathu

AYWalton: howyd khathu!

3rdthawkins: yeah, looks like Ancestry is overriding the exact matches

daviss: Its very irritating

Khathu: i came in yesterday for WDYTYA

AYWalton: I don't use the filter that much. only when I can't find someone new.

3rdthawkins: hey Seventies

AYWalton: howdy SoulChile!

vkn: howdy seventies

3rdthawkins: hey rcs

seventies soulchild: hey Khathu hey daviss lol

3rdthawkins: I had to pop in just to see if anyone was here, to my surprise, it was

AYWalton: hey there rcs!

daviss: was it something different than what was said before AYWalton

AYWalton: not really, daviss

Khathu: how many are familiar with this blog - Civil War Memory

3rdthawkins: didn't get to watch the show though, the second time I missed this episode and I was looking forward to seeing it, but lots of College B-ball on, and March Madness starting Tuesday, so was watching that

daviss: do you have a link khathu

Khathu: http://cwmemory.com/2008/07/15/another-black-confederate-part-1-of-9/

AYWalton: no, I had somehow missed that one, khathu.

daviss: no, I have never seen it khathu

Khathu: he has several posts that deals with black confederates which are pretty good

AYWalton: howdy Ingrid.

AYWalton: he is probably an SCV member.

Ingrid_Doweary: Hey 3rd, AYWalton, Daviss, Jhonora, Khathu, RCS and Vkn. How goes it?

vkn: howdy deannie

Ingrid_Doweary: Hey Deannie

3rdthawkins: hey deanie

daviss: I am still curious about how many rec'd a pension khathu, does he say at all

rcs: He is against the "myth " of Black confederates and says if you have evidence -- show it

daviss: I have several Harrison County DC's that say pensioners and I am curious to know from where two are old enough to have served but I cant find them in USCT

Ingrid_Doweary: What state did they serve or work in, Daviss?

3rdthawkins: so the searching begins daviss

Khathu: i haven't read all of his post

daviss: Texas Harrison County which was a Confed strong hold I began the search yrs ago 3rd lol

3rdthawkins: oh, ok

Ingrid_Doweary: You will have to research the Texas state archives for the pensions applied for and received from Texas, Daviss

daviss: been there done that ingrid but no luck

Ingrid_Doweary: Since the pension records will be most likely under Confederate government records.

daviss: ok thx ingrid

Ingrid_Doweary: In fact, you may want to look into the Richmond, Va confederacy records, since Richmond was one of three confederate capitols.

daviss: I forgot what narrative I read khathu but there is one person who resided in Harrison County stated that he signed up with the Confed army but by the time he got to La the war was over

Khathu: he has linked a video by historian Bruce Levine

daviss: did I say hello rcs

Khathu: http://cwmemory.com/black-confederate-resources/

rcs: Hello

Khathu: the video is really good go to the bottom of the page to view the video also check out the books

ProfDru: gotta run

daviss: bye lol everyone reading blog lol

Khathu: lol or listening to the video

AYWalton: No I was reading something else. You know how I am multi-tasking.

Ingrid_Doweary: I spent about six hours at the National Archives in DC yesterday and of course learned something new.

AYWalton: oh wonderful, Ingrid.

Khathu: what was that

AYWalton: what did you learn? hello there, deannie!

daviss: 'wb deannie

AYWalton: hope all is well, in Chicago.

Ingrid_Doweary: Since this is women's history month, it was timely to learn of a Union Civil war surgeon named, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker. wb Deannie.

AYWalton: sounds interesting.

deannie: Everything is good here...how about you

AYWalton: was just reading about her, Ingrid----wow she was a character!

Ingrid_Doweary: She was captured by the Confederates, imprisoned in Richmond,Virginia released in a prisoner exchange for a confederate doctor and was a recipient of the congressional medal of honor.

AYWalton: she was quite a character!

Ingrid_Doweary: Yes it seems that she was. Her honor was revoked on technicality but restored posthumously by Pres. Carter in 1977.

3rdthawkins: Blake Griffin!

AYWalton: but she never relinquished her medal. she wore it till her death!

Khathu: He has a good book list

daviss: wow Ingrid

Ingrid_Doweary: I had to research some records on her. I don't blame her for keeping the medal. She was under fire treating the wounded and infirmed. 3rd you must be watched a basketball game.
