Ingrid_Doweary: Sounds like you may be a history traveler for the summer. I've been working on a cost assesment to two family reunions- one in Joliet, IL in July and another in St. Louis, MO in August.

deannie: Ingrid....what the name of the family reunion in St Louis....I have family there and they are having two reunion....Tyler is one, and Willis is the other.....

Ingrid_Doweary: I don't know if I had a chance to tell you, Deannie, but the 7 women I'm research for a local chapter sorority.... I was able to find five of their images. I accessed the HeritageQuest remotely from my local public library. How is your research coming along?

deannie: Which one When I go to HeritageQuest....they are missing a lot of information

Ingrid_Doweary: Did you use the Historic Newspaper and Magazines database or the genealogy database?

deannie: I have not gone into it but that's a new research area

Ingrid_Doweary: I still putting together notes from the workshop I attended for using the genealogy database research. Trying to create the training guide using Powerpoint. Is your local public library card current?

deannie: Yes ok I'm going to learning to do powerpoint from my daughter before she goes of to college

Seventies Soulchild: Well when I got there I usually go to Vidalia or Ferriday or down to Natchez Under the Hill to eat

Seventies Soulchild: You would enjoy it. There are lots of restaurants and such there. I head into LA when I want to get a drink. LOL Its only like about 10 minutes out

jhonora: I've been to the Wm. Johnson house and Melrose and St. Mary's Basilica Really? Is Adams a dry county?

Seventies Soulchild: No its not. I just enjoy the novelty of a drive thru liquor store! lol What do you think of Natchez? Don't worry whatever you say won't hurt my feelings.

jhonora: I like what I've seen of Natchez. I wish they would include more on the slave markets. But the Wm. Johnson house was nice.

Seventies Soulchild: I agree. Isn't the Forks of the Road so very unassuming? I've been by Langston Hughes home in Natchez too. all very unassuming

jhonora: Yeah, isn't it something how after slavery, the freedmen camped there

Seventies Soulchild: Yeah. Now who was the African who was enslaved in Natchez, but was sent back to Africa. I think his story was called Prince Among Slaves.

jhonora: Abdul Rahman

Seventies Soulchild: They had a memorial for him back in about 2000. His family came from African and all. Yes thta's him that's him

jhonora: On the Foster plantation. A friend of mine has ancestor's who were on that plantation and prob. worked along side him.

Seventies Soulchild: I've never been to that location That must be closer to Jefferson Co.

jhonora: I think so. I know after the war they moved to Claiborne Co., to Port Gibson.

Seventies Soulchild: Found out that he worked for Arkansas City Cooperage Company

passingiton: did he die early or something?

Seventies Soulchild: No he didn't die early at all passinington

jhonora: He must have migrated

Seventies Soulchild: Yes, I did some resarch on the company he was working for according to his draft card and at that time the cooperage company was working on not making casks, but building railroads... I found that interesting because traditionally cooperages were the companies that built wine casks.

Ingrid_Doweary: How did you learn of the services his work place offered?

Seventies Soulchild: Google... listed under a site that did research on railroad companies it was hard to find though. took a couple days

passingiton: I had just the opposite today... uggh, let me tell you guys what happened, I had been waiting on the death certificate for Tobe Mitchell, I ordered it from GA the end of Feb, beginning of March and I got a record not located letter today, I wanted to cry, it was listed as Mitchel instead of Mitchell and they didn't find it, now I have to try and find someone in Atlanta to pay to pick the record up next week

passingiton: I contacted someone on RAOGK, so hopefully he'll be able to, no they are few and far between in rural GA, if I had the paper I would fly there myself Tues...lol

Seventies Soulchild: I have to give it to the ladies in the Wilkinson Co. Chancery and Circuit Court, they are the ultimate professionals. Shoot they kept their records better than I did! LOL

passingiton: what type of info do they give you

Seventies Soulchild: They gave me unlimited access to the marriage records, answered my questions professionally and with courtesy. Asked me who I was related to. In small places like that, you can get the hookup that way Referred me to the historical society

Seventies Soulchild: Now this was the Woodville courthouse. Wilkinson also has a courthouse in Centreville which is a shared city with Amite Co. Yes some have the extracts and indexes to court records passingiton. Worth a shot Its their job to keep up with the county's history
