Ingrid_Doweary: I thought you may have stepped away to check on something. I appologize for making assumputions. What are your thoughts about the oil spill disaster? Seventies Soulchild: Hello all Ingrid_Doweary: Hey Seventies. Seventies Soulchild: Hi deannie, Ingrid_Dowearyy and jhonora I know I'm late. . . lol ok what happened to deannie and jhonora? Ingrid_Doweary: Happy you joined us. Seventies Soulchild: Just stopping in for a moment I know its late Ingrid_Doweary: I'm not sure what happened Seventies. Maybe I asked too many of the wrong questions. Seventies Soulchild: No worries, the BP mess is on everyone's mind. We are going to be dealing with this for years to come I watched Quilombo this afternoon. It was a great movie! Ingrid_Doweary: Yeah, the news reports about the clean up crew members getting sick from the gasoline remind me of what happened to the 1st responders during 9/11. jhonora: I'm sorry y'all . Called to phone twice. BP should go bankrupt in my opinion. They will be paying many fisherman and restauranteurs Seventies Soulchild: I agree! And this officially ruins my vacation plans in MS this summer jhonora Ingrid_Doweary: I enjoyed it also from the last time I watched it. Seventies Soulchild: It should be $1million a da jhonora: Where were you going 70s? Seventies Soulchild: Natchez, MS Ingrid_Doweary: The movie Quilombo that is. jhonora: Were you going to go down to the beach? Seventies Soulchild: Well when I got there I usually go to Vidalia or Ferriday or down to Natchez Under the Hill to eat Ingrid_Doweary: Sounds nice Seventies. Seventies Soulchild: Natchez Under the Hill is nice now. Ingrid_Doweary: I hope to get a chance to try that out. jhonora: Yeah, Natchez is a nice town Seventies Soulchild: You would enjoy it. There are lots of restaurants and such there. I head into LA when I want to get a drink. LOL Its only like about 10 minutes out Ingrid_Doweary: Is that driving time, Seventies? Seventies Soulchild: Yes jhonora: I've been to the Wm. Johnson house and Melrose and St. Mary's Basilica Really? Is Adams a dry county? Seventies Soulchild: No its not. I just enjoy the novelty of a drive thru liquor store! lol What do you think of Natchez? Don't worry whatever you say won't hurt my feelings. jhonora: I like what I've seen of Natchez. I wish they would include more on the slave markets. But the Wm. Johnson house was nice. Seventies Soulchild: I agree. Isn't the Forks of the Road so very unassuming? I've been by Langston Hughes home in Natchez too. all very unassuming jhonora: Yeah, isn't it something how after slavery, the freedmen camped there Seventies Soulchild: Yeah. Now who was the African who was enslaved in Natchez, but was sent back to Africa. I think his story was called Prince Among Slaves. jhonora: Abdul Rahman Seventies Soulchild: They had a memorial for him back in about 2000. His family came from African and all. Yes thta's him that's him jhonora: On the Foster plantation. A friend of mine has ancestor's who were on that plantation and prob. worked along side him. Seventies Soulchild: I've never been to that location That must be closer to Jefferson Co. jhonora: I think so. I know after the war they moved to Claiborne Co., to Port Gibson. Seventies Soulchild: That's a ways up. I am still doing a lot of research in Wilkinson and lower Adams Co. WB Ingrid jhonora: wb Ingrid Ingrid_Doweary: Thanks Seventies and Jhonora. Seventies Soulchild: I recently while chatting here . . . lol . . . found documentation on an uncle I had trouble locating Ingrid_Doweary: Hey Passingiton. jhonora: Evening passingiton Seventies Soulchild: Hi passingiton passingiton: hi ingrid, jhonora and 70s Ingrid_Doweary: Good for you Seventies. jhonora: Great 70s! Seventies Soulchild: Knew he existed, but couldn't find one piece of info on him passingiton: that is good Seventies Soulchild: Found out that he worked for Arkansas City Cooperage Company passingiton: did he die early or something? Seventies Soulchild: No he didn't die early at all passinington jhonora: He must have migrated Seventies Soulchild: Yes, I did some resarch on the company he was working for according to his draft card and at that time the cooperage company was working on not making casks, but building railroads... I found that interesting because traditionally cooperages were the companies that built wine casks. Ingrid_Doweary: How did you learn of the services his work place offered? Seventies Soulchild: Google... listed under a site that did research on railroad companies it was hard to find though. took a couple days Ingrid_Doweary: Cool beans, Seventies. Thanks for sharing your success. Seventies Soulchild: No problem, just in case y'all see something like that in the future. Ingrid_Doweary: Appreciate the tip, Seventies. passingiton: I'm glad you are having some success seventies Seventies Soulchild: A little success. . . So many folks to track down. *sigh* passingiton: I had just the opposite today... uggh, let me tell you guys what happened, I had been waiting on the death certificate for Tobe Mitchell, I ordered it from GA the end of Feb, beginning of March and I got a record not located letter today, I wanted to cry, it was listed as Mitchel instead of Mitchell and they didn't find it, now I have to try and find someone in Atlanta to pay to pick the record up next week Seventies Soulchild: Oh no passingiton! Who on here is in Atlanta? passingiton: the are pretty strict about no info over the phone, not sure if they'll be willing to help at all, but I'm calling Tues morning Ingrid_Doweary: How disappointing for you. But what brick walls generate. Creative ways to approach the research problem. jhonora: Try RAOGK passingiton: true, definitely made me more determined Seventies Soulchild: What about VKN? Maybe she can pull the record for you, if she has time. Ingrid_Doweary: Are you using the services of a local historical-genealogical society? passingiton: I contacted someone on RAOGK, so hopefully he'll be able to, no they are few and far between in rural GA, if I had the paper I would fly there myself Tues...lol jhonora: RAOGK = Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness Seventies Soulchild: Or a historical society. Ingrid_Doweary: Okay. Seventies Soulchild: I'm going to have to get some RAOGK soon. I need help. passingiton: going to call the county Tuesday too, and I'm going to try the ancestry.com service too if neccesary I'm going to submit my name for here Ingrid_Doweary: That's the spirit, Passingiton. Seventies Soulchild: Best of luck to you with Ancestry.com They give up too quickly Like AYWalton and alt always say, make nice with the court clerks passingiton: yep, I'm going to be sweet-talking my BUTT OFF tuesday...lol Seventies Soulchild: lol That reminds me, I need to be making nice with the Wilkinson & Adams co. folks! lol passingiton: so anyone else make a brilliant discovery? Seventies Soulchild: About a month ago on my vacation get away to B'More, I found out that my Thomas & Edward Hinyard deserted the Union Army Ingrid_Doweary: Now passing how do you sweet talk the county clerk? Seventies Soulchild: Thank you notes. Little goodies. . . be extra courteous passingiton: don't know yet Ingrid_Doweary but I'm going to try...thanks Seventies Seventies Soulchild: You know act like you have home training! lol Ingrid_Doweary: I see says the blind woman. lol passingiton: ppl usually have sympathy on me when they find out I'm a southerner in Seattle Seventies Soulchild: AH another good tactic! lol Ingrid Ingrid_Doweary: lol Seventies Seventies Soulchild: I have to give it to the ladies in the Wilkinson Co. Chancery and Circuit Court, they are the ultimate professionals. Shoot they kept their records better than I did! LOL passingiton: what type of info do they give you Seventies Soulchild: They gave me unlimited access to the marriage records, answered my questions professionally and with courtesy. Asked me who I was related to. In small places like that, you can get the hookup that way Referred me to the historical society Ingrid_Doweary: Oh yeah? passingiton: nice, I hadn't tried them yet, going to thiough though Seventies Soulchild: Now this was the Woodville courthouse. Wilkinson also has a courthouse in Centreville which is a shared city with Amite Co. Yes some have the extracts and indexes to court records passingiton. Worth a shot Its their job to keep up with the county's history Ingrid_Doweary: WB Passingiton passingiton: took a quick trip through cyber space I'm back though Seventies Soulchild: you west coasters are having computer issues tonite, huh? wb passingiton passingiton: probably the crazy weather Ingrid_Doweary: Are you on the east coast, Seventies?
